How To Join:
Voices of North Georgia welcomes new members by audition at the beginning and mid-point of our season. If you are interested in joining us please contact Betsy Hopkins, Membership Chair at 770-534-3223. A brief review of your singing skills is required of each new member by the conductor. Betsy will be happy to speak with you about VNG and answer any questions you might have about the review/audition.
Along with the love of music and performance we share, our members recognize the effort necessary to run a successful organization. Each member joins a committee of our choice where we can volunteer talents beyond our beautiful singing voice. From stage setup, hospitality, fundraising and beyond, all of our members are involved in setting and achieving goals to serve us in the current season and beyond.
The chorus rehearses on Monday nights from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.
Please plan to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to practice.
We ask that members miss no more than 2 rehearsals per concert season.
In the event of an absence, please call your SECTION LEADER prior to rehearsal.
Members are expected to spend time outside of rehearsal learning and practicing their music in order to facilitate our rehearsals.
Membership dues are $80 for the year, payable at the first rehearsal.
Voices of North Georgia performs in concert black, with the exception of some community performances (festivals, etc.). Men wear a black tuxedo, white shirt, black bow tie and black shoes.
Women wear a black two-piece ensemble. Orders for this ensemble will be taken at the beginning of the season and after the mid-season auditions. Ladies also wear black onyx earrings (purchased through the choir) for performances.
Each year, during the months of August and September, Voices of North Georgia members solicit advertising from area businesses and private sponsors to support us. This brings in almost half of our budget. This year our membership will be organized into ad teams with at least one past “high seller” in each group to help the other members. We ask each member to make at least three “contacts” during this campaign.
Prior to each concert, you will receive an envelope of 8 to 10 tickets from your section leader. We ask you to please sell all of your tickets. These will be returned to your section leader on a specified date prior to the concert.
Regularly throughout our rehearsal schedule, we have snacks after practice with a short time to socialize. A sign-up sheet is passed periodically, so feel free to test your latest recipes on us! The hospitality committee also presents wonderful receptions following our first night performance of each of our concert weekends.
Our dues cover the cost of most of the music we perform. Please turn in your music to the librarian after each concert. While the majority of music is provided by Voices of North Georgia, many larger pieces that cannot be stored are purchased by each member. For example, each member purchases his/her own Messiah score for our annual performance. We use the Watkins-Shaw edition, which may be purchased at Lancaster Music across from Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville (770-536-8742). Also, music needs to be in a black choral folder for all performances.
